Data Science Intern - SBG

The Small Business Group (SBG) contributes directly to Facebook’s mission by supporting small businesses to connect with their customers and helping them grow by using solutions like pages, stories and advertising. We succeed when we help our customers grow their business. The SBG team is searching for a Data Scientist Intern. The Data Scientist will use data analysis to understand customer profiles, develop metrics to track our business, build models to provide insight into the Small Business customer base, identify opportunities, and impact the strategy of our Product, Marketing, and Sales teams. Ideal candidates love breaking down problems, building solutions, delivering actionable and data-driven insights, and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is a 12 week internship.

Data Science Intern - SBG Responsibilities
  • Take advantage of massive amounts of structured data to understand how small businesses interact with our product and service offerings to connect with their own clients
  • Lead the design, analysis, and interpretation of projects from data requirement gathering to data processing, modeling, and recommendations
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify new opportunities requiring the use of modern analytical and modeling techniques
  • Design and execute experiments (e.g., A/B testing)
  • Effectively communicate insights and recommendations to business leads and influence strategic decision-making
  • Frequently switch between on-the-ground tactical execution and 30k foot strategy
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Economics, Statistics, Applied Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences)
  • Experience with data querying and manipulation using SQL, Python, or R
  • Experience with data analysis in a scripting language (R, Python, Matlab)
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
  • Curiosity and desire to deliver business value and present data-driven insights to business audiences
  • Experience communicating with and influencing technical and non-technical audiences (engineers, data scientists, program managers, marketers)
