R&D Software Products Program Manager

 

Nexteer Research and Development applies Nexteer’s motion control expertise to innovate next-generation products for both automotive and non-automotive applications. We have launched an exciting new initiative to develop software product offerings that leverage our expertise in steering, chassis, and vehicles. We are looking for an experienced software program manager to be a key member of this team.

 

As the Software Products Program Manager, you will apply your expertise to manage the overall Software Products program as well as selected individual projects within the program. You will develop project plans and manage project execution including timing, budget, and risk. You will leverage your background in software project management and Agile to tailor the project management approach to each project. You will coordinate the work of other project managers on the Software Products team to ensure alignment between projects and to roll up overall program performance metrics and dashboards.  This position will be located in Auburn Hills, MI or Saginaw, MI.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Own Successful Delivery of Assigned Projects
    • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
    • Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track financial and schedule progress
    • Negotiate use of internal resources in a matrix-based project management structure
    • Support outsourcing of work and hiring of supplemental resources including Statement of Work development, vendor negotiation, and delivery management
    • Hold internal and external resources accountable to their project commitments and escalate to management when project success is at risk
    • Manage changes to project scope, project schedule and project costs
    • Apply advanced project management methodologies (Agile, Kanban, etc.) where appropriate
    • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
    • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
    • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Ensure Success of Overall Program
    • Develop an overall program plan that integrate key milestones and deliverables across multiple projects
    • Manage dependencies between projects
    • Manage overall resource and budget allocation across projects
    • Develop and implement dashboard to monitor program health across multiple projects
    • Provide the appropriate level of Executive and Project Team status reporting
    • Standardize project management methodologies across program


Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of software project management experience
  • 2+ years of program management experience
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage and coordinate projects in different geographic locations
  • Experience managing subcontractors including SOW development, vendor selection, contract negotiation, delivery management
  • Experience with software engineering process including requirements analysis, development, testing and implementation
  • Automotive Tier 1 project management experience preferred
  • Experienced with multiple project management methodologies including Waterfall and Agile
  • Expert-level MS Project user
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative, self-starter and entrepreneurial

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • PMP certification required
