Overview:
The Testing Science and Cascade Engineering Section within the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) is seeking a Nuclear Operation Technician for the R&D Operation Group. This group is focused on the execution of operations supporting testing: A team of expert operators and support staff available to lead and support testing operations for prototype enrichment devices.
Purpose:
The Enrichment Science and Engineering Division serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists and engineers with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments.
ESED is the national steward for the research, development, and demonstration of centrifuge technology. The successful candidate will provide research and development (R&D) leadership to the group that strategically advances science and technology focused on gas testing of prototype enrichment devices for processing uranium-bearing and stable isotope compounds.
Major Duties / Responsibilities
Major duties will include 24/7 shift operations and R&D testing of isotope enrichment devices. A focus of the position will be the execution of complex test plans involving the collection of significant data, maintaining the test systems for proper operations, rebuilding of the test systems, and providing input for continuous improvement of processes.
The successful candidate will be required to effectively interact with various technical and research staff personnel, both within and outside of ORNL. The candidate is expected to be able to work in a team environment with co-workers and management as well as independently, to follow procedures and fully document work performed in the form of laboratory and testing research logs, as well as test specific paperwork. Excellent communication skills, including verbal and writing skills are required. The successful candidate will interact with principal investigators, management, engineers, fabricators, and computer modelers.
