Oversees the quality and safety of transfusions at Parkland. Serves as an interdepartmental liaison to coordinate transfusion practices and to ensure transfusions are conducted in the safest possible manner while meeting or exceeding existing standards of practice.MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONSEducation:- Must have a Bachelor degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing; OR,- Must have a Bachelor degree in Laboratory Medicine or equivalent line of scientific study.Experience:- Registered Nurse: Must have five years of experience in a hospital-based nursing department with regular transfusion activities; OR,- Medical Technologist: Must have five years of experience as a technologist in a transfusion services laboratory; OR,- Any combination of five years of nursing and medical technology experience.Equivalent Education and/or Experience:- None.Certification/Registration/Licensure:- Registered Nurse:- Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license. -Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:oAmerican Heart Association oAmerican Red Cross Rescuer oMilitary Training Network. - Medical Technologist:- Must be registered as a Medical Technologist by a national certifying agency. Skills or Special Abilities:- Must possess a thorough knowledge of transfusion practices for both blood and blood-derived products.- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.- Must be capable of preparing presentation materials for diverse audiences and purposes.- Must have good organizational skills.- Must be able to collect and analyze data.- Must be detail oriented.- Must be a team player who is self-directed and adaptable.
