Assoc Staff - Engineering

The Optical Engineering Group applies all aspects of the optical engineering discipline to the development of prototype space-borne, airborne, and terrestrial optical systems. By utilizing state- of- the-art technologies, Optical Engineering specializes in producing innovative solutions for complex optical sub-systems that pioneer operation and performance in a variety of integrated systems.

Group expertise and capabilities span the entire optical system development life-cycle, from concept development through detailed design, analysis, assembly, alignment, and comprehensive testing. Optical engineers partner with engineers from other disciplines to ensure optical performance is maintained over all environmental conditions. Example projects include: satellite-based imaging systems, space-based and ground-based laser communications systems, and airborne laser imaging and spectroscopic systems on both manned and unmanned aircraft.

The selected candidate will be involved in the development of ground-based, air-borne and space-borne optical systems. The work will include design, integration, and testing applied to the development of complex optical hardware from conceptual design through fabrication and performance evaluation. Candidate must be interested in working on a broad range of optical problems from system conceptual design, ray tracing and tolerancing, specification and oversight of optical component fabrication, and optical system alignment and testing. This position involves working in close-knit, multi-disciplinary teams with design, analysis, fabrication, and test personnel. The position may require special security clearances and travel to meetings and field sites.

Qualifications:
Education:  MS in Engineering with a concentration in Optical Engineering or BS with 3 plus years related experience outside of education.
Experience:  The candidate must have extensive experience in optical design, performance evaluation and budgeting, optical component fabrication and test, and optical system alignment and test. The candidate should have experience with a broad range of optical system: visible, IR, reflective, refractive, ground, space and aircraft systems. The candidate should have basic opto-mechanical knowledge to aid in optical system development. Optical design experience with proficiency in Zemax or Code V is desirable.
