Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear - On site support - Port Elgin Location

We are recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer for our Port Elgin / Tiverton, Ontario location.

Job Summary:

This is a unique role that provides support to various nuclear power station systems. The location of work will be both BWXT’s Port Elgin office and the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Tiverton.  Typical tasks include: support of emergent issues, engineering calculations and analysis, maintenance support, procurement support, and execution of minor design changes. Support is typically related to automated refueling equipment (Fuel Handling), reactor channel inspection systems, or nuclear tooling.  This is a dynamic assignment that requires interaction with many different stakeholder groups including design, maintenance and operations.  This role requires someone who is local to the Bruce County area or who would plan on moving to the area.

Responsibilities:

• Review and/or approval of design documentation, technical specifications, applicable codes & standards, development and test plans.
• Liaise with customer design, operations, and maintenance personnel to gather site-specific design information.
• Execute walk-downs of various equipment in the plant.
• Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable company, technical, and regulatory standards.
• Participation in design reviews and customer review meetings, providing stakeholder and design input.
• Provide execution of design/analysis/test/commissioning of complex equipment and systems.
• Review selection of materials and vendor components (i.e. bearings, valves, fittings, supports).
• Adhere to on-time/on-budget criteria associated with project commitments and customer success.
• Support the development and estimating of engineering proposals.

Job Qualifications:

• Engineering degree in Mechanical discipline.
• PEO certified Professional Engineer, or in process of obtaining same.
• Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical equipment/tooling/fixturing design in a manufacturing environment with modern technology.
• Strong preference given to relevant nuclear industry experience, particularly related to machine, mechanism and tooling design.
• Working experience with bolted connections: sizing, materials, stress limitations, etc.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Inventor solid modeling software.

Desired Characteristics:

• Exceptional communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
• General understanding of Engineering Change Control (ECC) concepts for the nuclear industry or other industries.
• Ability to interface with project team members, vendors and customers to ensure scope and requirements of the project are understood, and to ensure the project is executed per the project schedule and budget.
• Ability to work on scheduled tasks independently and interface with other team members with varying functions (project managers, mechanical designers, software designers, etc.).
• Knowledge in the application of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section III and VIII), ASME B31.1, B31.3, CSA N285.0, CSA B51.
• Working experience related to welding process and welded joints: ASME Sec. IX or CSA W59.
• Knowledge of the jurisdictional processes for pressure vessels (TSSA, CNSC).
• Project management and controls training; at minimum, exposure working within these controls.
