Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

  • In collaboration with your engineering team mates / supervisor and as it relates to precision engineering and metrology for fiber optic connectivity:

           o Design and execute experiments related to the evaluation of metrology systems.

           o Create and evaluate test methods.

           o Contribute to various other projects related to high-precision engineering and metrology.

Hours of Work / Work Schedule / Flex-Time:

  • Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm


Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled in BS program with majors in Mechanical Engineering or Optical Engineering/Science


Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with the basic concepts of metrology and precision engineering including but not limited to:

           o Precision dimensional metrology

           o Coordinate metrology

           o Optical metrology and fabrication (polishing/grinding, form measurement, surface metrology, etc.)

           o Fiber optic measurement

           o Precision machine design, flexure design, and sensor application

  • Familiarity with engineering process fundamentals and scientific methodology (i.e. designing and using critical experiments to drive fundamental understanding)
  • Data/statistical analysis skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Results-oriented
