Group 89—Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group
The Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group conducts quantum information science research from a shared foundation of innovative control-signal design, outstanding fabrication tools, and well-equipped measurement infrastructure. The group has a broad range of experimental and prototyping activities. The group's quantum information science activities include the development of superconducting and trapped-ion qubits and quantum sensing with nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. In addition, the group has robust capabilities in classical superconducting circuits, complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) design and fabrication, and integrated photonics. These component technologies are used in synergy with quantum information science demonstrations, as well as in standalone applications that include beyond-CMOS circuit technologies, energy-starved sensors, compact optical communication and laser radar transceivers, and microwave photonic signal processing.

Position

Diamond Growth Engineer

MIT Lincoln Laboratory seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, scientifically driven CVD diamond growth engineer with experience in advanced diamond growth and characterization tools. Focusing on growth processing and fabrication of next-generation diamond material, the successful candidate will join a dynamic team working in the rapidly growing field of quantum engineering.

The group conducts a broad range of experimental and prototyping activities. The group’s quantum information science activities include the development of superconducting, trapped-ion, and diamond nitrogen-vacancy center qubits.

 

 

Job Description

 

The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers conducting research on cutting-edge diamond growth. The individual will join fast-paced, diamond growth-related projects and have the opportunity to lead independent, complementary research. The candidate’s primary responsibility will be related to operation of the diamond growth and characterization equipment, data collection and analysis, as well as conducting experiments and ensuring the quality and consistency of established growth processes. 

 

Requirements

  1. PhD degree or MS preferred, BS degree + relevant experience;
  2. 3+ years of relevant experience in materials science, chemistry, physics, or other diamond growth-related discipline

Skills and Experience

  1. Microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition of diamond
  2. Materials characterization: Optical, confocal, and electron microscopy; PL/Raman spectroscopy, EDS, EPR, FTIR, SIMS, and X-ray diffraction techniques
  3. Vacuum system design, operation, maintenance, and safety
  4. Safe handling and disposal of chemicals
  5. Semiconductor-related research experience and fabrication techniques: ion implantation, lithography, materials deposition and etching
  6. Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
  7. Ability to manage priorities among multiple teams
