PRIMARY PURPOSEResponsible for the receipt and preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination including surgical, autopsy, research and outside cases, documenting results, and maintaining work area and equipment to ensure compliance with PHHS guidelines. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONSEducation: Must have successfully completed training in an approved NAACLS Histotechnician program OR- An Associate's degree OR- at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistryExperience: NoneEquivalent Education and/or Experience:-May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above. Certification/Registration/Licensure:Histotechnician - HT (ASCP) preferred.Skills or Special Abilities:Must be able to demonstrate a routine knowledge of basic histologic equipment in order to appropriately operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of related equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of internal and external personnel. Must be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of histologic procedures and techniques.
