Maintenance/Light Construction Worker

This position is responsible for assisting in the overall maintenance and efficient functioning of the buildings and grounds of the retirement community. Customer service and attention to detail are required. Desire to serve the elderly and support the team by responding to service calls and problem solving efficiently and expertly. Is hired by and accountable to the Environmental Services Director.

Job Qualifications

Must have basic maintenance knowledge with at least three (3) year practical experience in commercial building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, landscaping or general repair work and basic knowledge of heating and air-conditioning.

Must have a valid driver’s license. Must participate in “on-call” duties. Must support the mission and values of Fairmount Homes.

Essential Duties

1. Regularly notes condition of equipment and physical plant, looking for possible fire and safety hazards and acting to prevent such hazards for team members and residents. Suggests improvements for safety and efficiency in operation.

2. Assists in installation of any equipment and repairs, and any maintenance as may pertain to any department in the facility. Must be capable of repairing most facility equipment and helping to decide on which equipment should be outsourced to better utilize our time and resources.

3. Responsible and available for any emergency calls.

4. Assists in keeping water system, water heaters and water softeners, nitrate and chlorine units in good condition. Also assists in keeping drains and sewage system in operation.

5. Assists with maintenance of campus facilities and all cottages and apartments.

6. Assists in maintaining grounds, keeping premises neat and clean.

7. Assists in grounds snow removal, as required.

8. Assists with seasonal duties, i.e., installation and removal and/or cleaning air-conditioning units, etc.

9. Assists with the schedule of preventive maintenance for equipment, and maintains adequate records of the same.

10. Assists with trash disposal duties and water testing as assigned by Environmental Services Director.
