The purpose of this position is to attract individuals to Amtrak’s Supply Chain Department, providing an entry point for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Operations, or Supply Chain degree from an accredited university. Candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply their skills in both the office and field and to gain firsthand work experience in the various aspects of supply chain (planning, procurement and warehousing). 


Under the supervision of a Supply Chain leader, the position may rotate among the following disciplines in Procurement and Logistics:  


Supply Chain Procurement: in which responsibilities may include requesting quotes, issue micro purchase POs, award analysis, maintain delivery information, and expedite material deliveries; 

Materials Management: in which responsibilities may include parts identification, BPO management, asset identification, kitting materials, material transfers, system management of delivery improvement and resizing bin locations. 


Material Planning: in which responsibilities may include forecasting, creation of purchase requisitions, and location to location transfers as well as performing data analytics via excel spreadsheets for materials disposition, stocking and vendor performance metrics. 


Strategic Procurement: in which responsibilities may include award analysis, high level and more complex purchases. 



  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.  
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Operations or Supply Chain  
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.  
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher 



  • Expert in Microsoft Office and Excel 
  • Familiarity with SAP 
  • Good communication and writing skills
