OB Technician - registry Night

Position Requirements:
~High School diploma or equivalent.
~CPR Certification
~Certified Nursing Assistant, or 5 years experience as an Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting or
~Previous experience as a surgical technician
Addendum: if hired after 5/1/2016, must obtain certification for Surgical Technician within 6 months of hire ~Knowledge of basic computer keyboard functions is preferred.
~Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
~Courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
~Demonstrates responsible and ethical behaviors consistent with the Advocate values (Equality, Compassion, Excellence, Partnership, Stewardship).
CPR certification. ~Ability to rotate shifts to provide coverage
~Exposure to various contagious disease, radiation, chemicals, caustic materials, electrical equipment and hazards associated with their use.
~Demands which require walking, standing, bending and lifting throughout the day.
~Ability to lift 50lbs. or more may be required.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

To provide quality care to patients in a manner which is patient focused, technically appropriate and cost effective. The OB Tech works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse in accordance with accepted standards of practice, within the guidelines of the Illinois Nursing Practice Act and the Mission and Philosophy of Advocate Healthcare and South Suburban Hospital.

The OB Tech works in collaboration with the RN as a partner in the care, treatment and education of patients. The OB Tech recognizes the needs and behaviors of patients of various age groups and provides care in a manner that is age appropriate. The OB Tech strives for patient centered care which assures the patient is treated holistically with dignity and respect.

Provides basic nursing care to patients in a team environment under the direct supervision of the nurse.

Performs as a scrub technician for all surgical procedures performed in the Maternal/Child unit.

Provides clerical support as needed.

Provides general patient care duties that are specific to the patient population served, under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
The OB Technician works under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. The OB Technician is responsible for establishing and maintaining a sterile field, a safe patient care environment, and appropriate supplies/equipment as required for the operative procedure. The OB Technician functions as a cooperative health care team member in a critical care environment treating the patient in a holistic manner with dignity and respect.
Demonstrates customer satisfaction skills within the department and hospital as defined by the Advocate's System's goals.
Participates in the Admission/Discharge/Transfer process of all patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, or designee
Contribute to the patient plan of care through the documentation and/or communication of patient needs, problems and outcomes to other health care providers
Perform tasks related to maintaining the integrity of patient care standards and efficient unit operations.


Report patient safety events and near misses in timely fashion
