Group 99—Integrated Systems and Concepts
The Integrated Systems and Concepts Group specializes in the rapid development and demonstration of innovative optical system solutions to address difficult challenges facing the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and other U.S. government entities. The group maintains broad expertise in electro-optical and infrared sensors, charge-coupled devices, focal plane arrays, ground/air/space electronics, image processing, video exploitation, and low–size/weight/power optical communications systems. The group leverages this core expertise to architect, design, build, and deploy hardware and software systems in support of mission needs. Emphasis is on working closely with end users to develop enabling concepts and then building and fielding integrated systems on responsive timelines. The group seeks self-motivated engineers and scientists with multidisciplinary skill sets and a passion for prototyping systems that address critical national needs.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Group 99 - Integrated Systems & Concepts is seeking a Technical Staff to join our team developing and demonstrating prototypes.  Roles range from leading development efforts or owning key technical roles in larger programs and research areas, to being a key contributor in a development team.  The Technical Staff will use mission and technology knowledge to architect large systems, and detailed mechanical, electrical, and software knowledge to develop the systems.  The successful candidate will contribute directly to hands-on mechanical, electrical, and software technical implementation, while working with a diverse group of personnel, including mechanical, electrical, and circuit board designers; fabrication and assembly specialists and technicians; electrical, mechanical, and test engineers; and junior staff to complete the design, fabrication, assembly, and test of novel prototypes. The Technical Staff will also transfer the knowledge gained during development and testing to operators to use the system during tech transfer efforts. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience building hardware prototypes and a broad skillset in electrical, software, and mechanical engineering. 

Expertise in embedded design using processors, microcontrollers, and/or FPGAs.

Self-motivated individual with the demonstrated capability to excel with limited oversight while having excellent communication skills to work cooperatively in a technical team environment.

PhD in Engineering or Physics or MS degree and 5 years’ experience.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS: 

 

Highly Desired Skills include:

Experience with software configuration control and project collaboration tools.

Experience performing hands-on testing and troubleshooting.

 

Desired Skills include:

Experience using PCB design and layout tools.

Experience with a range of software and firmware development tools.

Knowledge of C++, Python, C#, Java and XML.
