Actuarial Analyst Intern

The actuaries at USAA are trusted experts when it comes to quantitatively assessing the risk and uncertainty associated with future events. Key projects in the actuarial space include pricing insurance policies, setting loss reserve amounts, building models to predict expected losses, simulating market scenarios, forecasting revenues, and accounting for the possibility of catastrophes. If math comes easily to you, if you love finding patterns in data, if you can communicate advanced topics to a non-technical audience, if you have a fundamental understanding of programming logic consider an actuarial internship at USAA.

Our 2021 summer internship program will start on May 24, 2021 and last through July 30, 2021. To be eligible, you must be a college student during the time of the internship program. Job Requirements Tasks:
Acquire foundational knowledge of the business and apply it to solve problems
Collaborate with business partners to define objectives
Use actuarial tools and software to analyze financial or market scenarios
Manipulate data tables, run models, and generate reports
Test model assumptions
Adjust and improve models where appropriate
Analyze industry- and location-specific trends and regulatory/legislative activity
Identify impact of emerging trends on the membership and on business results
Identify critical metrics and segments to monitor
Suggest timely remedies to correct or prevent unfavorable outcomes
Minimum Education:
Currently pursuing a bachelors degree at an accredited university
Graduation date cannot be prior to the end of the internship
Minimum Experience:
0 to 2 years of related experience and accountability for simple to moderately complex tasks and/or projects required
Foundational and conceptual knowledge of the function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills and abilities towards work products required
Foundational level of business acumen in the areas of the business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required
Preferred Education/Experience:
Majoring in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance
Foundational knowledge of SQL, VBA, SAS, R
Experience explaining/presenting technical topics
1 or more actuarial exams
