Functional Safety Manager Job

Requisition Summary

PACCAR’s Embedded Engineering department, which serves both Kenworth and Peterbilt, has an opening for a Functional Safety Manager within the Embedded Systems & Software team.  This position requires an experienced professional with deep understanding of the ISO 26262 standard and its successful application at an OEM. The ideal candidate will be able to lead engineers to deliver critical program goals across multiple projects, and continue to enhance PACCAR’s global functional and system development processes. 


Job Functions / Responsibilities


  • Lead North America Functional Safety strategy from concept to production.
  • Lead North America input into PACCAR global Functional Safety process definition and implementation.
  • Lead North America input into PACCAR global Functional Safety activities specified in Corporate Standards.
  • Develop and lead a plan for ISO 26262 compliance in upcoming PACCAR project(s).
  • Promote and train functional safety processes and concepts within PACCAR.
  • Participate in Functional Safety risk analyses to ensure consistency and thoroughness.
  • Review and approve all Functional Safety requirements documents.
  • Own/Lead development and implementation of Functional Safety plans and Safety Case.
  • Lead Functional Safety-specific supplier activities using Design Interface Agreements and Functional Safety Assessment Reports.
  • Up to 10% travel (domestic and international)  


Required / Desired Skills and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science required.
  • 5+ years of Functional Safety/ISO26262/ASPICE experience in the automotive or trucking industry.
  • Prior experience with Agile Development practices preferred.
  • Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, SAE J1939 and LIN preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO26262 and ASPICE is preferred.
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and System Modeling tools such as IBM DNG, IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational Team Concert preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.
  • Able to work in a team environment where multiple active projects require effective coordination of multiple concurrent tasks.
