Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - PRN

Position Requirements:

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • NBRC entry level credential
  • Possess an Illinois state license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Associate's Degree if graduated after 2000.
  • Basic Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within one year of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support within one year of hire.
  • Registry eligible will remain in CRT job until demonstrating pass status for Boards.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good clinical and problem~solving skills.
  • Must be able to participate as a member of an interdisciplinary patient care team as well as promote a positive team spirit and professional image of the Respiratory Care Department.
  • Possesses a good knowledge base and demonstrates competence in all Respiratory Care modalities for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Possess a good knowledge of Asthma and COPD disease management methods.
  • Demonstrates good patient and family teaching skills and the ability to develop disease management care plans.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, RCP
  • Ability to maneuver heavy equipment or lift heavy objects (ie. patient, compressed gas cylinders).
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials/disease states. May be exposed to strong odors and bodily fluids/waste.
  • Duties require much verbal activity and the ability to speak in front of a group.
  • Emergency patient activities may be stressful.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Under the supervision of the Manager, Respiratory and Pulmonary Services, the Respiratory Care Team Lead, in conjunction with the Medical Director, the Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care modalities to inpatients and outpatients of all age groups, including neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric. All modalities are provided in accordance with written policies and procedures, and include oxygen therapy, respiratory treatments, ventilator support, blood gas analysis, EKG's, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These modalities may be delivered in all areas of the hospital. The Certified Respiratory Therapist functions as an integral part of the healthcare team and is vital to providing quality, safe patient care utilizing clinical and critical thinking skills.

Assess indications for and deliver the highest quality of patient care and monitors for optimal outcomes by utilizing best practices from evidenced based medical research and AARC and AAP clinical practice guidelines for prescribing and assessing patient responses to delivered therapies. Re~evaluates patients on an ongoing basis to ensure that appropriate modalities and plan of care are adjusted or maintained as patient condition changes by recommending changes to MDs or prescribing within protocols.
