The Project Manager will lead projects which involve the design, development and manufacture of safety and non-safety related equipment and systems used for the remote control of fuel handling systems, specialized reactor inspection and maintenance tooling, process plant systems, and other associated equipment in the nuclear industry.




  • Provide leadership on assigned projects to ensure successful execution through established company procedures in relation to quality, schedule and cost.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and stakeholders, as well as convey the voice of the customer within BWXT.
  • Coordinate and participate in the preparation of estimates, schedules and proposals as required (including Contract Change Requests).
  • Collaborate with functional leads to develop overall project activities, tasks and resource needs, project management plans, risk registers, and updates of dashboards to permit ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Proactively identify project risk, analyze solutions and take decisive action to resolve issues.
  • Be responsible for overall project deliverables and managing multiple constraints associated with the various projects (schedule, budgets, scope and requirements).
  • Present and report on project status, metrics, issues, risks and project resource needs to senior management.
  • Monitor project health and performance indicators using earned value methodologies including CPI and SPI.
  • Work with Project Scheduling & Controls Specialists to ensure schedule integrity and quality.
  • Participate in and support overall operational business monitoring and planning (e.g. resources, sales, margins, forecasting, revenue recognition, CAPEX).
  • Participate in coordinating / producing cost or schedule recovery / mitigation plans, as well as monitoring scope creep throughout the project life cycle.
  • Participate in business process improvements through goal setting, process enhancement, and technology introduction to achieve business goals.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to processes and policy requirements.
  • Act as the key interface with external customers for project communication / reporting and interact with subcontractors and cross-functional internal teams as necessary to execute projects.
  • Follow-up with customers to resolve past due and other commercial/contract issues related to the projects.
  • Obtain and maintain PMP designation.




  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Project Management Education or PMP Certification is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills (MS Excel) and understanding of project costs.
  • Short term travel (up to 10%) may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience using enterprise-level project management and scheduling tools.




  • Key success factors are achieving and maintaining effective project planning, reporting management, milestone completion on-time / on-budget, meeting metrics, motivating a diverse group of staff, and achieving results through influencing, actions and setting of expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability in product or system design and project planning / execution, including development of processes / procedures and process improvements.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Engineering design, team leadership, product design leadership, manufacturing team leadership, commercial operations, project management and / or project planning.
  • Very strong communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6) is an asset.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is considered an asset but not required.
