We are looking for a network architect who can help IT management lead the way to our path forward for industry trends. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of setting aggressive goals to take Spire to the forefront of competitive advantage within the energy industry. They will bring to the organization superior architecting capabilities to design and deploy complex solutions to meet business objectives in a fast-paced environment.

The Network Architect will use their critical thinking ability, creativity, certified expertise and years of experience to design and shape Spire’s network roadmap to meet business needs in security, productivity and modernization.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor trends in the industry to maintain a path of future growth and support.
  • Work closely with vendor partners to review standards for service excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (IT, Call Center, and SCADA management, and other Spire departments) and subject matter experts throughout the organization to ensure that business requirements, design practices and Spire’s network roadmap are aligned to business objectives.
  • Maintain an awareness of how projects impact the business.
  • Collaborate with IT Security to assure the highest industry standards are met for protecting our infrastructure from cyber threats.
  • Keep a keen eye on process improvements that will provide for increased network reliability.
  • Develop and maintain the 3-year and 5-year network roadmaps.
  • Work with any regulatory entities to assure proper audit requirements.
  • Have a solid understanding across many IT environments including database, cloud services, various server platforms, collaboration tools, and telephony.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of Cisco route/switch infrastructure, Security platforms, wireless technologies, and new WAN offerings.
  • Present high-level reviews of major projects and industry concepts to senior management.
  • Document technical designs and workflows
  • Develop standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate, define and improve Infrastructure processes and procedures.
  • Participate in trending and forecasting of usage and services and ensuring the network is operating at optimal performance.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technology discipline is required.
  • Certifications required, possibilities include:
  • Cisco Certified Network Analyst
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional
  • CompTia Security+
  • Checkpoint Certified Security Expert
  • Cisco Certified Internet Expert – Route and Switch
  • PMP
  • ITIL Foundations
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
  • Experience with full Microsoft Office 365 suite design, support and maintenance in a hybrid environment
  • 10+ years direct work-related experience in network support, installation, design, project management and architecture roles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in architecting an Enterprise level data center with a primary and backup site or Active-Active environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design with cloud presence.
  • Network Architecture experience with Cisco routers and switches including IOS, NX-OS and a strong knowledge of the ACI platform.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
  • Ability to teach new technologies to the network engineers in preparation for future migrations.
  • Must have a keen focus and well-established expertise in Network Automation.
  • Expert knowledge in all technical aspects of network topologies and methodologies.
