Job Title:            Materials Clerk

Location:            Richmond, VA



What we are looking for: 

This position is responsible for organizing and maintaining the accuracy of materials inventory throughout the facility, monitoring material usage trends and adjusting stock accordingly, and managing the flow of materials between the warehouse and production.


Essential Competencies:  

  • Design, implement, and adjust as needed visual triggers (Kanban) to ensure materials availability.
  • Audit and communicate variances to stock ins and outs; communicate to buyer fluctuations and patterns in material usage/demand.
  • First In, First Out (FIFO) management of parts and materials.
  • Manage inventory locations based on usage and anticipated changes in volume.
  • Audit materials and process standards to ensure compliance.
  • Transfer inventory from stock to work-in-process (WIP) in ERP system.
  • Review Bill Of Material (BOM); pull/kit parts to daily order schedules
  • Operate material handling equipment (ex: forklift, standing lift, 4D lift).
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area using 5S methodology.
  • Review and suggest updates to standard work.
  • Assist in creation of quarterly volume / Kanban review using MS Excel.


Minimum Quantifiable Competencies: 

  • HS Diploma/GED.
  • Minimum three months experience working in an ERP (Oracle, AS400, SAP, etc.)
  • Minimum six months experience operating material handling equipment (ex: forklift, standing lift, 4D lift).
  • Minimum six months experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.


Preferred Competencies: 

  • Able to quickly and accurately count, add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
  • Basic proficiency with MS Excel and Outlook.
  • Previous experience using continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN, Six Sigma, etc.) to implement and measure process improvements.

Essential Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting or kneeling.
  • Must be able to lift with or without mechanical aids on a recurring basis (up to 50 lbs).
  • Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
