Responsible for managing all resources in assigned fleet. Responsible for carrier operations, delivery of assigned products, economic performance of assigned fleet, and maintenance of all transportation units and equipment in assigned area. Responsible for Supervising Transportation Analysis and Customer Service (TACS) personnel in designated region to ensure perfect and timely service is provided to our customers.




Leads assigned region’s Transportation Analysts and Coordinators for GROWMARK’s Transportation Analysis and Customer Service (TACS) area.  Selects, trains, and manages fleet carriers to support product divisions. 




Manages cost effective transportation operation in assigned fleet. Recommends changes resulting in greater operating efficiency and better distribution service.


Responsible for quality of operation of assigned fleet. Works with member cooperatives, regional staff, and product divisions to determine service requirements. Maintains professional relationships with member cooperatives and GROWMARK personnel.


Ensures safe operation of assigned fleet. Develops safety programs and promotes safety with the carriers, their drivers and owner operators. Assists in safety related emergencies. Ensures that carriers meet DOT safety requirements.


Selects and negotiates rates and charges with all carriers.


Establishes service capabilities and guidelines in the dispatch areas.  Measures and communicates service levels to the Director, Transportation Operations.


Ensures professional customer service and working relationships with members, patrons, other GROWMARK divisions, and department personnel.


Oversees the invoicing of brokerage services performed by dispatch operations.


Prepares budgets for the dispatch and brokerage operations.


Maintains GROWMARK freight rate table for all delivered products. Ensures acceptable freight recovery is maintained.


Works with dispatch, carriers and customers to plan and meet seasonal peak load demand.


Responsible for marketing profitable brokerage services. Ensures payment of services is collected within payment terms.


Ensures all carriers used have signed GROWMARK carrier contract.


Provides market information on competitive freight rates for assigned products and geographic area.


Works with the Operations and Sales Manager at GTTC to develop maintenance procedures for all equipment to ensure assigned equipment can meet delivery needs.


Keeps current on changes in the industry and maintains positive relationships with appropriate industry contacts. Stays informed on state and federal rules and regulations.




Provides a leadership role as it relates to service and economics of transportation.


Analyzes incident reports, prepares summaries and recommends procedures and training to help prevent reoccurrence.


Plans and coordinates with the placement and condition of trailers.


Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.


Performs all other duties as assigned.




Normally requires a college degree in the transportation field, or the equivalent thereof, and 3 years or more of logistics related work experience to demonstrate knowledge of truck transportation.


Understanding of and experience with transportation related areas including planning, logistics management, brokerage, negotiation, policies, procedures, safety, and compliance along with transport driving, vehicle maintenance, dispatching and sales ability.


Proven leadership skills including staffing, coaching and performance evaluation. Ability to achieve results through others.


Proven professional communication and customer service skills.


Demonstrated planning, organization, problem-solving, and project management skills.


Proven team building skills and the ability to work independently and in team-oriented environment.


Proven computer skills and ability to use the computer to enhance business processes and transportation operations.


Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel independently and overnight when necessary.


Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.


Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
