APPLICATION INTEG ANALYST III - IT CLINICAL SYSTEMS

The Applications Integration Analyst is responsible for developing, testing and deploying interfaces and related technology aimed at modernizing, consolidating and coordinating the flow of data between independently designed applications within and across the organization. The Applications Integration Analyst will determine how new applications, legacy systems, databases and other systems, which may be currently operating on multiple platforms, are integrated in- order to meet the existing and emerging requirements of the organization. The Applications Integration Analyst will collaborate Project Managers, Applications, and Technology teams to optimize the flow of data across a multitude of systems. The Applications Integration Analyst will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and operational support functions of Hoag Information Exchange system and all HIE interfaces

 

Essential Functions 
 Application Integration Analyst I – Integration/HIE

• Collaborates with key stakeholders, end users and other members of the business, patient care and Information Technology teams to optimize data flow and access.

• Evaluates problem tickets and service requests, customer requests for changes, data integration requests, system performance problems and optimization opportunities, and participate in the timely resolution of these activities.

• Assures the Information Technology (IT) needs support the goals and objectives of the customer as well as the business needs of Hoag.  

• Addresses data integration concerns for the end-users.

• Support the Operational aspects of the HIE system (Health Catalyst).

• Performs routine manual maintenance and data validation tasks required by HIE and integration systems.

• Works with end-users to gather business requirements, performs analysis, code and test interfaces to ensure successful and seamless communication among the various IT systems and applications components.

• Participates in the design, build and maintenance of system interfaces and other data integration elements for the Information Technology department.

• Participates in the design, build and maintenance of HIE interfaces and other data integration elements of HIE.

• Responsible for monitoring system interfaces and interface engine and HIE to proactively identify potential issues and assist in troubleshooting and resolving data integration issues.

• Troubleshoots and resolves interface errors and other data integration issues. 
• Responsible for testing the data integration components of systems, including any configurations, customizations, and new releases, prior to production implementation.

• Responsible for communicating system changes to the end-user and training staff.

• Participates as a team member in various projects, including those lead by the PMO.

• Prepares for and participates in system design, validation and/or remediation sessions.

• Work with vendor relations staff in communicating and working with information technology vendors.

• Works with application teams to assist with the design and execution of integrated testing.  

• Position may require local travel between various Hoag locations and its affiliates.

• Position may require participation in 24/7 department on-call program. On-call employees are required to carry a department issued phone or pager, respond to calls within 15 minutes, troubleshoot problem and provide services off-site as needed and be available to provide services on-site as needed within 1 ½ hours of being called or paged to respond.

• Position may require participating in meetings outside of normal business hours including occasional evenings and/or weekends. 
 

Application Integration Analyst II – Integration/HIE

• Actively leads and takes ownership for the design, build and maintenance of system interfaces and other data integration elements.

• Troubleshoots and resolves highly complex interface errors and other data integration issues

• Responsible for addressing a high volume of system-related activities in a timely fashion while consistently maintaining a high level of quality and customer satisfaction.

• Leads small to medium-sized projects.

• Understands the business use of clinical and non-clinical applications and works with the Application teams to help resolve data integration issues related to those systems.

• Manages data integration concerns for the end-users. 
 

Application Integration Analyst III - Integration/HIE

• Primary ownership for the design, build and maintenance of highly complex interfaces and other data integration elements.

• Independently resolves the most complex interface errors and data integration issues

• Leads large projects and functions as a data integration expert on complex, cross-functional projects.

• Advanced understanding of the data flow among applications throughout the Hoag application architecture and works directly with the Application teams to resolve complex data integration issues.

• Make recommendations on state-of-art integration tools and methodologies.

• Be able to trouble shoot and integrate with Database Management Systems 

 

Education, Training and Experience 
Required: 

 Applications Integration Analyst I – Integration/HIE:

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with Health Level 7 (HL7) interface programming.

• Experience in an environment using interface engines and HIE. 
 

Applications Integration Analyst II – Integration/HIE: In addition to the above, the Applications Integration Analyst II will have:

• Minimum of three (3) years application integration experience in an acute healthcare environment.

• Advanced knowledge of data integration tools, techniques and standards (e.g. HL7, IHE standards, Cloverleaf interface engine, etc.).

• Ability to assist junior staff with completion of assigned tasks. 
 

Applications Integration Analyst III – Integration/HIE : In addition to the above, the Applications Integration Analyst III will have:

• Minimum six (6) years application integration experience in an acute healthcare environment

• Expert knowledge of data integration tools, techniques and standards (e.g. HL7, IHE standards, Cloverleaf interface engine, etc.)

• Ability to mentor junior business analysts and application integration analysts

 

Preferred: 
 Applications Integration Analyst I – Integration/HIE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.

• Two (2) or more years’ experience working in a Health Care Data Integration or HIE department, preferably within an acute care environment

• Experience with healthcare industry-specific interface standards and code sets (IHE, ANSI, HIPAA, SNOMED, etc.)

 

Applications Integration Analyst II – Integration/HIE: In addition to the above, the Applications Integration Analyst II should have: 
• Familiarity with HIE concepts and IHE standards (C-CDA, XCA/XCPD…) 
 

Applications Integration Analyst III – Integration/HIE: In addition to the above, the Applications Integration Analyst III should have:  

• Minimum of two (2) or more years’ experience with IHE standards (C-CDA, XCA/XCPD…), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and basic knowledge and familiarity with FHIR. 
 
Skills or Other Qualifications 
Required:  

 Applications Integration Analyst I and II – Integration/HIE:

• Possesses skills and knowledge of application integration life cycle components, including event triggers, workflow, data transformation, message routing, message queuing approaches, etc.

• Excellent communication skills; customer focused; excellent attention to detail; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment.

• Proficient with Microsoft office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Access 
 

Applications Integration Analyst III – Integration/HIE: In addition to the above, the Applications Integration Analyst III should have:

• Possesses logical structured thinking abilities and can develop sound business cases to support planning and critical decision making

• Advanced presentation and facilitation 
 

Preferred:  

• All Levels: Advanced experience with Microsoft office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Access.
