Sr Accountant - Fixed Assets

This is a key position on the Asset Accounting team which is responsible for the GAAP & IFRS accounting of over $2B in capital construction-in-progress projects and over $60B of Fixed Assets. The projects include everything from cell sites to internally developed software to retail store construction. As a part of this responsibility, the team works closely with the business units, prepares and maintains accounting transactions (e.g., capitalized interest and capitalized labor), closes the accounting books monthly, and accounts for variances in both capital and operating expense accounts.

This position works closely with Network Engineering operations teams and the Tax Department to ensure the proper accounting treatment for new technologies and understand changes in processes to determine their impact on accounting and financial statement reporting. This position will primarily focus on special projects in the area of network assets.

  • Use accounting concepts, wide-ranging experience, analytical skills, and knowledge of industry to identify and resolve issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Analyze large volumes of data with the ability to identify issues and trends.
  • Ensure accounting records, monthly accounting close activities, and variance analyses are adequately and properly prepared, maintained and explained in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional projects to thoroughly understand the potential impacts on Accounting and our business partners, represent our needs/requirements and ensure implementation is successful.
  • Record journal entries, reconcile complex accounts, and proactively create/improve processes
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are developed and performed.
  • Understand business drivers and their effect on financial results to ensure business changes are accurately reflected in the financial statements and analysis.
  • Proactively identify issues and process improvement opportunities; recommend solutions and work with appropriate business partners to resolve or assist with implementation. Respond to inquiries from business partners and effectively align with them to achieve business objectives.

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a large company accounting environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory and accounting systems; SAP experience a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, decision-making and analytical abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with different levels within the organization
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously with excellent quality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems positively and professionally with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Excel and Word; Access database experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business
