Manager, Digital - Innovation Center - OH, PA, W VA, MD, NJ

About the Opportunity

The goal of the Innovation Center is to deliver innovative solutions to problems with the goal of driving value to customers, employees and internal business units. 


The position will lead digital initiatives within the Innovation Center, infusing user-centric expertise into analytics and automation solutions while also conducting individual projects for the business; provide support for the overall Center’s mission and vision.


The position is within the FE Innovation Center and reports to the Director, Innovation Center. It can be located in OH, PA, W VA, MD or NJ with regular travel required.


 Responsibilities include:

  • Lead Digital team and oversees all work activities and schedules to ensure appropriate support to the business partners
  • Collaborate with Innovation Center leadership to set agenda and enable FirstEnergy’s innovation vision and ambition
  • Hire, coach and mentor the digital talent and help the team become best in class within the industry
  • Develop, own and drive FirstEnergy's digital vision, strategy and roadmap for the Innovation Center
  • Oversee deep user research and utilize its insights into the service or experience design of digital solutions
  • Collaborate with Analytics teams to build human-centered solutions based upon analytic insights
  • Promote the utilization of user centricity, process expertise, and related technologies in digital activities
  • Determine the appropriate resource and capacity requirements needed for the digital function
  • Support the identification, assessment, and selection of potential digital opportunities
  • Shape the digital narrative across the company, build deep relationships with stakeholders to share stories and infuse digital-fluency
  • Partner with businesses to align on strategies, planning and prioritization 
  • Provide insight and support to discovery and development teams with deep organizational relationships
  • Work in conjunction with the project manager and digital resources to provide guidance to remove impediments and provide expertise
  • Participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest
  • Publish thought leadership articles to establish FE as an innovator within digital space in the industry
  • Drive digital learnings on an ongoing basis within the team, supporting various use cases and projects with a roadblock clearing mentality
  • Provide continuous feedback on existing work underway to shape successful projects for the business
  • Coordinate with IT, Infrastructure, Security and other support functions, and provide support as required to enable team’s success
  • Help team solve day-to-day issues to add immediate value while long term foundation is being enabled
  • Work with project teams to baseline financial measures for each project
  • Develop partnerships to bring best practices in digital to the FirstEnergy capability



  • Bachelor’s degree required with minimum 7 years relevant experience at progressively increasing levels of responsibility required.  In lieu of a degree, High School Diploma or GED and a minimum 10 years relevant experience at progressively increasing levels of responsibility required.  Relevant experience includes experience in consulting, project management or process improvement related roles.
  • Minimum 3 years experience supervising a team preferred
  • Demonstrated superior understanding of business and technology organization, resources, priorities, needs and policies.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the implementation of complex digital projects, design thinking, and user-centric approaches
  • Demonstrated experience leading and executing work around service design, experience design, and research
  • Ability to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy and deliver results
  • Strong design thinking skills and creativity skills and demonstrated ability to generate a variety of ideas for solutions
  • Experience providing customer-focused support, both internally and externally
  • Experience in building positive relationships and working with peers cross-functionally, demonstrating teamwork and collaboration
  • Strong critical thinking skills and communication skills
  • Ability to appropriately manage conflict and work through difficult situations as needed
  • Willingness to travel throughout organization and service territory and work extended hours, as required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of front-end development technologies or coding languages
