About The Role

As a Chaplain, you will provide spiritual and pastoral care within a multi‑faith prison chaplaincy team, supporting the wellbeing of both clients and staff. Reporting to the Divisional Chaplaincy Manager and Senior Prison Chaplain, this is a permanent, full time role that will work across our three Metro Melbourne locations: Melbourne Assessment Prison, Ravenhall Correctional Centre and St Johns Unit in Victoria.

This role is identified as requiring a committed Christian, in accordance with Section 351(2)(c) of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), as it is necessary for the role to conform to the doctrines, beliefs, and principles of The Salvation Army.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Provide spiritual and pastoral care, including one‑on‑one support, groupwork, and Christian services
  • Collaborate with local corps and faith communities to create pathways for spiritual growth and connection
  • Respond pastorally to critical incidents and contribute to holistic client care within service frameworks
  • Participate in meetings, contribute to prisoner care plans, and work effectively within a multi‑faith chaplaincy team
  • Facilitate faith‑based programs, ceremonies, and referrals to Salvation Army or other faith communities
  • Complete required administration, maintain accurate records, follow WHS and risk procedures, and meet training obligations

What You Will Bring

  • Possession of relevant spiritual‑care qualifications such as a Diploma of Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), theological studies, and Positive Lifestyle Program (PLP) Facilitator training.
  • Meets the yearly credentialing requirements of the Territorial Chaplaincy Support Unit (TCSU) to be registered as a Salvation Army Chaplain, including provision of professional development log, professional pastoral supervision log and ecclesiastical endorsement.
  • Mandatory participation in:
    • Professional pastoral supervision (minimum 8 sessions per year)
    • Chaplaincy team meetings
    • Area Leadership Teams (if invited)
    • Monthly spiritual retreat day
  • Regular attendance at a Christian place of worship
  • A national police record check
  • Employee Working with Children Check
  • Valid driver’s licence (if required for tool of trade car or pool car access)
