NoSQL Database Administrator

Rogers is seeking a Digital Database Administrator having significant experience using Cassandra, and other NoSQL databases, to provide operations, development, and project support across various database platforms for our Digital initiatives.  The database team is a critical component of the Rogers Infrastructure Operations & Delivery group, responsible for every aspect of database technology, operations and delivery.  Reporting to the Senior Manager of Database Services, at the Rogers Park Brampton Campus, you will ensure the highest standards of database availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our business systems.

What you will be doing…

  • Provide strong technical knowledge and business subject matter expertise across a wide range of database technologies, with focus on Cassandra.
  • Provide Cassandra Non-production database support.
  • Manage enterprise database support services on heterogeneous databases ensuring smooth and efficient operations within a very large and complex database environment.
  • Take the lead on major incident resolution and communication. 
  • Support geographically dispersed vendor database support teams to deliver a high level of IT support.
  • Identify potential areas for service improvement and raise proposals with stakeholders.
  • Working closely with technical team leads and application support teams to ensure consistent delivery and quality of database services.
  • Coordinate with external vendor technology support when required. Once issues are resolved in the short term, focus on root cause and long term
  • Acts as a technical adviser to provide detailed planning information to project coordinators 

What you have…

  • Experience on cloud platform - Amazon webServices & NoSQL Cassandra database.
  • Expertise in Oracle 12c RAC, Performance tuning/troubleshooting skills and experience with VLDB's, Oracle RAC/ASM. Amazon AWS, Cassandra dB, Data-replication tools – Shareplex & Golden-Gate
  • Strong experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization
  • Solid hands-on experience in High Availability solutions like Clustering and Replication technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues through the use of technical abilities and tools
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases with a preference of Cassandra, Redis, and/or Mongo
  • Experience working with traditional RDBMS on Linux with a preference of Oracle  and/or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with either Amazon Web Services or Azure, managing multi-region deployments
  • Experience writing automating database maintenance processes and monitoring using shell scripts .
  • Experience providing appropriate Database Performance tuning support concerning storage I/O, bufferpools, query access plan assessment and creation of required database structures including indexes.
  • Experience providing project database consulting and oversight for complex projects including physical design, query analysis, and database implementation.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; (i.e. Documentation skills for processes and procedures (creating KBs, runbooks, topology etc.)
