Geoscience Research Lab Technician - Geochemistry

Job Role Summary

The ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company located in Spring, Texas is seeking qualified individuals for a Research Lab Technician role in the Geochemistry Facility.  Position involves analysis of crude oils and extracts using a variety of analytical techniques to facilitate geological assessment / interpretations such as reservoir source character and age, thermal maturity, fluid quality, hydrocarbon types, and hydrocarbon migration.


Job Role Responsibilities

Upstream Research Company
Focus is on the development of proprietary, high-impact technologies in support of the upstream operating companies. The approach is to align with upstream priorities and key geoscience and engineering technology issues; focus on timely and effectively technology delivery; provide expert consulting, unique laboratory capability and technical training.  Geoscience technicians in the Upstream Research Company support this effort using their data integrity skills to find, transfer, manage, and integrate various datasets in support of research team geoscientists and engineers.

Job Requirements and Primary Job Functions

  • Experience is required working in a lab applying liquid chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, and other analytical techniques (GC/GC/MS, GC/MS/MS) in geochemistry, petrochemicals, or other organic chemistry-related fields
  • Position requires ability to recognize / troubleshoot problems with various lab instruments and a desire to collaborate with research professionals on the development and testing of new analytical procedures
  • Research Lab Technicians should have experience applying laboratory QA / QC
  • Adaptability, teamwork, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to high safety and ethical standards

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, geochemistry, or related science (preferred)
  • Candidates with a BSc in chemistry, geochemistry, or related science and comparable experience will also be considered
  • Candidates should be able to work efficiently across diverse team environments
