Amtrak Police Department’s (APD) College Student Internship provides qualified students with practical work experience that compliments their academic course work.  It also provides the Amtrak Police Department with an opportunity to involve college students in various aspects of police work. APD’s Internship is designed to provide students with an opportunity to integrate theory and practice. The internship is a paid, non-sworn position. Hours vary.  The intern may work up to 24 hours per week when classes are in session and 40 hours per week during holiday and summer breaks.  Interns will gain valuable work experience, on-the-job training, and have an opportunity to develop a professional networking base for the future positions in government service or law enforcement.

This position will assist Amtrak Police Department’s Captain of Patrol with a variety of duties and functions in support of various APD projects.  Duties will include:
• Record keeping – organizing and maintaining records and data.
• Data collection and dissemination in support of data driven initiatives.
• Manipulating managing, querying, and summarizing raw data from APD data sources in support of data driven policing initiatives.
• The use and application of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
• Completing correspondence and tracking responses associated with specific time lines.
• Assisting with maintaining standard operating procedures files, standardized data sources, information request logs and tracking.
• Performing other duties as required.

• This position begins Spring/January 2019


• Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Political Science, Statistics or a related field.


• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p
• Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft 360 and statistical software packages
• Strong PC skills


• Experience in storing, securing, retrieving, sharing, transmitting, analyzing and using data.


Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
