IT Engineer II

Job Summary

The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, forecasting, analyzing, troubleshooting, and documenting Wide Area Network infrastructure to support Store, Campus, External (3rd Party) Business Partners, Call and Distribution Centers, and Data Center domains within the Walgreens internal and external network. The position will participate and may lead major network projects to support capacity growth, upgrades, company initiatives/goals, new products/designs, acquisition, divestiture, and network standardization.

The position will also interact and support other technical platforms such as voice, wireless, LAN, Active Directory, proprietary server infrastructure, and network performance management tools.  This role will involve developing and documenting test plans, network diagrams, SOPs, troubleshooting and configuration standard designs, and will sometimes train less experienced staff.  The candidate should have experience with Enterprise Change Management, network maintenance, Life Cycle Management (LCM), creating a Bill of Materials (BoMs), and be a Tier-4 on-call escalation point for major Enterprise outages.

The role will consist of – the configuration, testing, and deployment of new hardware, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot existing network infrastructure, perform MACDs (moves, adds, changes, delete’s), act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to peers and management, improve cross-departmental processes/workflow, investigate, understand and introduce new technical initiatives/ideas, high-level manage projects/issues proactively and recommend future recommendations for improvement, and be a cost conscience positive team member.

 
Job Responsibilities
  • Actively participates in the daily operational activities that impact important components / processes of the of the IT work function, and may include responsibilities, such as:
    • Execution of deployment operations to monitor and improve on pre-release, upgrades and current versions of software.                                                       
    • Evaluating compatibility of programs with existing hardware and/or software features.
    • Development of protocols to support established standards.
    • Improving operation and monitoring of advanced or complex features.
    • Development of processes and interface requirements.
    • Data development and definition of acceptance criteria.                                                                                                                                                                  
  • Gathers and updates necessary information and communicates to appropriate parties.
  • Utilizes experience in order to identify problematic relationships. Anticipates, prevents and eliminates problems and creates efficient fixes. Facilitates elimination of problems and roadblocks before they occur.
  • Works cross-functionally to accomplish assignments. Interacts with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information related to areas of specialization.
  • Mentors less experienced members of the team.
  • May assist in live site support and incident resolution that may include on-call rotation.
