Psychiatric Consult Liasion- Department-Social Services

Master's degree required in nursing, psychology or other related field will be considered.

3~5 years experience in a hospital's psychiatric setting.

Knowledge of DSM~IV diagnostic categories and the Illinois State Mental Health Code.

This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
Psychological assessment skills.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to calmly and effectively manage crisis situations.
Certification/licensure in related field.

CPR Certification.
Ability to work any shifts or weekends, as needed.

Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations.

Ability to carry long rang pager and be available for consultation during time off.

May be exposed to hazardous materials and life~threatening diseases.

Ability to lift, move or assist in restraining of patients.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Provides advanced behavioral health knowledge and skills including direct and indirect assessment and care of patients and families, crisis intervention, support group facilitation, behavioral health education, and problem~solving in all clinical care areas.

Performance of direct specialized care with patients who have been identified as needing psychological assessment or interventions beyond the scope of general patient care practice
Consultation with multidisciplinary treatment team members in all areas of the hospital on the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of patients with psychiatric and/or withdrawal symptoms.
Facilitates the management of complicated psychiatric events or crisis. Provides direction to clinical staff on available and appropriate interventions
Educates physicians and clinical staff in psychiatric diagnosis, preferred treatment strategies and available resources.
