Birth Center Scrub Tech

Site:  Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington

Hours:  7pm to 7 am, including rotating weekends and holidays

Status:  Full Time (72 hours bi weekly)

Qualifications:

High school diploma.
1~2 years previous work in patient care area of hospital.
Previous knowledge of sterile Technique.
Surgical training preferred.
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Completion of C~section scrub class within 2 months of employment.
C.N.A. or equiv
Current CPR certification
Ability to lift, ambulate, and transport patient, equipment, and supplies. On~call availability.
Very high level of stress due to unpredictable patient volumes and degree of critical services required.
High risk of exposure to ADIS and hepatitis due to exposure to blood and bodily fluids during normal deliveries and while serving as scrub tech during operative procedures.
Will use potentially toxic chemicals to clean equipment and instruments.
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

To provide patient care by performing specific duties and procedures under the direction of the registered nurse to support the patient care needs.

Accountabilities:
Ensure that appropriate equipment and supplies are available and properly prepared for all procedures, deliveries, and unit needs.
Provide support during surgical procedures as scrub technician through appropriate preparation of operating room environment utilizing aseptic technique.
Collaborate and support health care team members (physicians, nurses, and other departments) to provide a cooperative working environment.
Demonstrates timely response to laboring patients initiating proper patient care.
Ensure accuracy of specimen identification, handling and processing.
