Lactation Consultant-Night Shift

PRIMARY PURPOSE
Serves as a lactation consultant in the Lactation Services program in the WISH and Parkland Education department, in order to ensure that patients and their families receive proper education and training related to breastfeeding.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health, Nutrition, Education, or a related field.

Experience:
- Must have two years of experience in maternal/child health, to include one year of experience in lactation consulting.

Equivalent Experience:
- May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:
-Must have current CPR-Healthcare Provider course completion card or obtain during initial orientation at Parkland
o American Heart Association
o American Red Cross
o Military Training Network
- Must be certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

Skills or Special Abilities:
- Must be able to demonstrate competency in the physiology and clinical management of breastfeeding.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff.
- Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
- Must be capable of handling complex or clinical specialty care.
- Must be able to initiate changes utilizing independent judgment with minimum supervision.
