Certification Engineer

Certification Engineer-TEMA-UKDY-TP-021117a

We go the extra mile to make sure we can move millions of people safely and reliably, everywhere around the world, every single day. Join us at Bombardier, and you’ll be part of an international team, sharing knowledge and experience across countries and cultures to push technological possibilities. In the UK, Derby is a global hub for Bombardier. As the home of the hugely successful AVENTRA platform, it is a lead engineering and production site and has been responsible for engineering design for some of the world’s most exciting trains. It is here that you will help us to connect communities, cities and businesses, enabling them to get wherever they need to be. If you’re motivated to make your own progress, you can move your career in any direction.

We are currently looking for experienced Certification Engineers to join our growing team in Derby

The opportunity

It is UK government policy that no organisation can procure a train and put it in service unless it meets stringent European interoperability legislation. At Bombardier, that’s a challenge that we enjoy embracing. Our thriving Certification Engineer teams are the experts in their field, proving to the legislative bodies that we understand their requirements. But more than just meeting these requirements, we go above and beyond the expected standards to produce safe, high quality and high performing trains.

You will play a crucial role in this team, ensuring that our products conform to all applicable standards. Managing technical specifications and the scope of work during bids and projects, you will ensure train design is valid and verified and that risks are minimised. Reviewing customer technical specifications and legislation to understand requirements, you will work alongside vehicle engineers in making key decisions regarding vehicle concept and architecture. You will also engage with the legislative bodies to resolve technical compliance issues and ensure our trains meets the criteria to be authorised in more than one country.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to maintain our worldwide reputation for excellence, so you’ll need a rounded engineering background in an area such as vehicle engineering, systems architecture or integration engineering. Proactive with the drive to set standards that other manufacturers aspire to reach, we can teach you the relevant skills, so you’ll need to enjoy learning and adding to your knowledge. With a good awareness of whole vehicle requirements, this role is unique to the rail industry – but at Bombardier, we’re proud to define safety and excellence at every level. As such, you will have (or be willing to learn) a comprehensive understanding of the relevant European legislation, plus the ability to work at pace – months of delays can cost millions of pounds, so we’re looking for engineers who share our passion for high-quality and dynamic working. Crucially, your ability to solve complex problems and analyse possible solutions will ensure we stay one step ahead of the market.
