Plant Maintenance Rotating Equipment Specialist

Job description

Reporting to the Maintenance Plant General Foreman, the Plant Maintenance Rotating Equipment Specialist will be responsible for efficient maintenance management of the plant mechanical rotating equipment to maximize overall availability and reliability.



  • Strong focus on managing safety and leading safety initiatives to ensure no one gets hurt
  • Managing Plant Maintenance condition monitoring programs including vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultra sonic inspections, lubrication and thermography
  • Performing hands on trouble shooting, running maintenance calls, and equipment failure investigation.
  • Providing site based operator and technician training and mentoring and development of maintenance training programs and procedures. Providing procedure competency reviews on mechanical equipment maintenance work execution, operational tasks and update procedures as required
  • Recommending solutions applying 5 Why’s and failure analysis. Acting as direct liaison with reliability engineering on RCFA
  • Providing analytical data and validating performance data to support engineering analysis
  • Conducting equipment assembly and installation inspections
  • Providing expertise into equipment strategy, task list, spare parts and procedure development
  • Interfacing with Operations, Planning, Engineering and Programmatic organizations as required
  • Integral member of Kearl reliability team and best practice networks


  • High school diploma or GED is a minimum requirement
  • Journeyman Millwright or Mechanical Technologist


  • Minimum 5 years maintenance or reliability experience with pumps, conveying systems, vibrating screens, crushers, turbines and power transmission systems
  • Basic knowledge and experience in predictive technologies such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, ultra sonic and thermography
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong communication, team work, coordination, influencing, organizational skills
  • Commitment toward improving the operation and generating revenue enhancement opportunities
  • Self-motivated and leads by example
  • Ability to independently manage a diverse workload with changing priorities
  • Fluent computer skills (i.e. SAP, Excel, MSWord, Notes)
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and safe driving record are required

  • This position will be a full time fly-in, fly-out role to Kearl site from either Calgary or Edmonton. Relocation assistance to Calgary or Edmonton is available if required. Bus transportation is also available to Kearl site from Fort McMurray at the beginning and end of each shift rotation for Fort McMurray residents.
  • Kearl operations positions will typically be 11 days on and 9 days off (shift rotations start and finish with a partial day shift).
  • Kearl operations will provide safe, secure and quiet accommodation near to the worksite for employees working on rotating work schedules. Facilities include a private room/washroom for each employee.
