Process Technician, TGV

The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.


Position description:

Main support technician for day to day logistics of the Through Glass Via (TGV) program.  Fully understand each process step, their interdependency, cycle times and yield rates.  Work closely with all members of the TGV team to ensure smooth flow of raw material, WIP and part shipments.  Fill-in as needed to support production activities including job starts, tracking, processing metrology and shipping.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Alternate leader of daily production meeting; Work with Production Planning Supervisor to coordinate and track status of customer jobs and experimental parts through each process step.
  • Closely work with each team member to understand timing and predict potential production issues, including bottlenecks.  Report findings to Planner and Operations Manager and proactively look for solutions before issues create shipment delays.
  • Work with Planner to create production schedule; generate a prioritized run plan with Commercial and Development teams.
  • Procure and distribute glass and packaging needed to support TGV demand; manage inventory levels.  Interact with glass suppliers/CM’s as needed to procure substrates and report issues.
  • Initiate and facilitate movement of WIP and samples between process steps, or to various departments at Sullivan Park for testing.
  • Shipment of product to customers.  Understanding of domestic and international shipment procedures, as well as Sullivan Park shipping protocol.  Maintain up-to-date shipping and receiving records.
  • Regular communication with technical leads to understand upcoming requests, sample specifications, customer feedback, status updates of samples in process, and internal testing.
  • Complete customer sample summaries, as needed
  • Fill-in support as needed due to technician absences or to relieve production bottlenecks, especially for laser and metrology/inspection process steps.



Required Education: AS degree in science-related field

Minimum years of experience: 3


Required Skills & Experience:

  1. Experience with early stage program process development
  2. Laser processing in glass substrates
  3. Optical metrology of precise product features
  4. Ability to evaluate trade-offs and drive to production scheduling decisions
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  6. Proficient with Microsoft office products, including Excel and MS Project
  7. Strong mathematic and analytical skills
