Job Summary
Prioritizes and coordinates ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists, and referring physicians. Performs ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Provides adequate patient care as it relates to the exam requested. Operates ultrasound and associated equipment with proficiency.

Essential Functions
  • Performs ultrasound procedures in a skillful, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Demonstrates competency in differentiating artifacts from anatomical or pathological structures and recognizes abnormal anatomy to include performing additional images as needed.
  • Ensures patients are properly prepped for procedures.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of work area and ensures rooms are adequately stocked with supplies.
  • Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures, and administers first aid, as needed.
Physical Requirements
Work requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Requires walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Motor coordination needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Completion of a comprehensive, medical diagnostic ultrasound program required. ARDMS or ARRT certification; or if a new graduate, registry-eligible required. 2 years experience in ultrasound (1 year as senior student and 1 additional year of experience) required. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
