Services may be provided face to face or through tele-health. The Nurse Practitioner must possess commitment to patient care and take an active role in the delivery of medical care in a Primary Care setting. The candidate must also possess excellent clinical knowledge. This position will involve interaction with other services and hospitals and fosters a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. The incumbent will also provide women's health care needs. DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: * Provides for Ambulatory Care Service must be available 8 hours a day, Monday thru Friday. Shift work may be required as appropriate for coverage. * In an emergency, as a member of the medical staff, you are authorized to treat any disease and perform any procedure within the scope of medical licensure. An emergency for these purposes is defined as any situation in which any delay in your administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or would constitute an immediate threat to the life of the patient. * BLS/CPR is required; ACLS and Out of Operating Room Airway Management (OORAM) as appropriate. * Nurse Practitioner must be qualified and training in the following areas: * Ambulatory and Outpatient Care * Mental Health * Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) * TeleHealth/TeleMedicine * Compensation & Pension (C&P) * Consult response in any setting * Notifies supervising physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation. * Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimen, emotional problems associated with cardiac disease and health maintenance. * Documents and maintains patient record of services provided per program standards. * Enhances professional growth and development through participation in mandatory educational reviews, educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. * Performs clinical research related to specific operations as appropriate. * Participates in utilization review for quality of service. * Coordinates patient treatment plan with other caregivers such as the physician, community health nurse, physical therapist, social worker, and nutritionist. * Clinic note completed, documented, and encounter closed in CPRS same day of visit with the patient. * View alerts to be addressed within 24 hours of receipt and no more than 75 view alerts permitted to be carried over to the following day. * Participation in the facility's PEER review process, including the external review. * Provides telemedicine service via Clinical Video teleconferencing, as needed, to other WTVAHCS primary care setting for cross coverage. Qualifications Basic Requirements: * United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. * English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. * Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. Graduate of a school ofprofessional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: * The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or * The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. OR * Foreign Education. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs, the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency, such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Candidates with equivalent Nurse Practitioner masters or doctorate level degrees who possess current, full, active and unrestricted registration and certification (see paragraph 2c) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment. * License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. * Nurse Practitioners must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Prescriptive Authority. The handbook does not address any additional requirements that nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists must meet before they are granted prescriptive authority. Preferred Experience: * 2+ years experience as a Nurse Practitioner. * National Certification as a Family/Internal Medicine or Adult Health Nurse Practitioner. * Proficient in computer proficiency software. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: * APN (Nurse Practitioner) II: Meets basic education requirement for APN (CNS). Nurse II is considered the entry grade level for APN (NPs); no experience is required. * APN (Nurse Practitioner) III: (i) Meets basic education requirement for an APN (NP) AND (ii) One year of specialized APN (NP) experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
