New South Express Inc., is a member of the Canfor group of companies operating over 60 tractor trailers as a major back haul service across the Southern US. We are currently looking for safety minded drivers for our locations in South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia to haul wood products from our sawmills to our valued customers in the local area.

 

The By-products Operations Manager is a key position in the NSE structure. They plan, organize and direct the shipments of by-products for Canfor Southern Pine. Coordinating with 3rd party carriers and the company fleet they are the front line control for all facets of the by-product shipping cycle. This manager is safety centric. They bring energy daily, are results focused, and are persuasive, assertive leaders. They are excellent communicators with all managers, vendors and associates. They follow through on all issues to ensure the safe, efficient and uninterrupted operations required by Canfor Southern Pine. For all these reasons this position requires 24/7 availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides reporting to the Regional Manager on all issues affecting mill or fleet operations.
  • Serves as liaison with procurement managers, customers, vendors and carriers/drivers.
  • Investigates and resolves issues with carrier payment by working with various departments.
  • Generates driver payroll including investigating and resolving any pay discrepancies and calculating bonuses and driver eligibility.
  • Monitors NSE driver performance and fuel efficiency.
  • Coordinates with NSE lumber dispatch to provide or request extra trucking in order to maximize the utilization of drivers and equipment.
  • Recruits, screens and qualifies new drivers.
  • Coaches drivers on safety events, observations and complaints. Provides progressive discipline and documentation as required.
  • Coordinates maintenance with Ryder as needed to ensure driver delays are minimal.
  • Maintains supplies of uniforms, tarps, straps, etc. and issues to drivers.
  • Up to 40% travel required

 

Required Skills:

  • Past CDL Driving or Dispatching experience preferred
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of logistics and transportation experience and/or education or an equivalent combination of both
  • Safety minded with an ability to identify potential problems before they happen
  • Supervisory experience considered an asset
  • Highly motivated, tenacious, and able to work independently
  • Organized, detail oriented and courteous
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
