Mechanical First Line Supervisor

Job Role Summary


ExxonMobil is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical First Line Supervisor position at the Billings, MT refinery. This position is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of refinery assets.

Job Role Responsibilities

This position requires direct interface and supervision of routine maintenance and turnaround personnel.


  • Responsible for safe, reliable and efficient execution of routine maintenance and/or turnaround maintenance while holding the highest regard for safety programs, operations integrity, and toolbox talks
  • Responsible for environmental excellence  
  • Responsible for developing, updating and effectively communicating execution plans and maintenance procedures
  • Responsible for developing plan, schedule, and resource strategy to allow execution of applicable environmental-related mechanical work to be completed by scheduled compliance date
  • Responsible for monitoring execution of maintenance activities to achieve desired business targets
  • Interfaces with Operations for equipment preparation activities
  • Responsible for achieving training compliance
  • Responsible for stewarding and coordinating contractor resources
  • Responsible for the development of employees


Required Qualifications


  • The individual must have extensive knowledge and experience in refining (a minimum of five years of experience preferred) or equivalent
  • Experience in both routine maintenance and turnaround environments
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are essential and prior supervisory experience is preferred. Must be able to work in a team environment and lead a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Able to adapt to changing work priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to set high standards for safe performance
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, strong troubleshooting and decision making skills (problem analysis and conflict management skills)
  • Ability to understand, control and drive optimization of maintenance expenses
  • Key competencies for this position include initiative, innovation, interpersonal skills, concern for effectiveness, a drive for continuous improvement and flexibility
  • The individual should be proficient in using personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets and databases
