Mars Wrigley Confectionary is looking for an Associate Product Development Scientist in Hackettstown, NJ.

 

The Associate Product Development Scientist is an important role within the Chocolate business category business unit (CBU).  This role is responsible for creating product design ideas, interpreting sensory and consumer insights, bringing to life consumer feedback from testing for the product design, and translation of product innovations to effectively communicate the intent of the product concept for the Expand core, Adjacency and Disrupt areas of growth. This role will be part of a team that will provide deep technical product and process understanding and will work with lead markets to develop prototypes to drive innovation. The incumbent will be responsible for prototyping development activities and is accountable for the execution of the allocated projects for all current and future product types.

The Associate Product Development Scientist will possess a solid drive for results, excellent project management skills, a creative and entrepreneurial growth mindset, and an ability to create strong networks and relationships to drive the innovation agenda. They work both independently and with guidance to deliver relevant innovative prototype innovation and will work effectively with cross functional teams to drive projects to execution.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivering prototyping development activities and is accountable for the execution of the allocated programs to bring project through commercialization
  • Responsible for effectively fleshing out design ideas into prototypes
  • Responsible for interpreting sensory and consumer insights into prototypes
  • Responsible for bringing to life consumer feedback from testing into prototypes
  • Ensures that the product development designs are delivered for the brands and that they are designed to meet the consumer needs and brand essence.
  • Ensures that the prototyping development process is carried out such that timelines are met to market products.
  • Ensures that the product specifications and costing are as accurate as possible
  • Works within cross-functional teams to prototype within the design thinking way of working for the projects they are accountable for.
  • Works with the Science and Technology teams to help prototype ideas to bring them to life
  • Remains abreast of new developments in food technologies, packaging, design, category trends and related fields
  • A technical expert in formulation, prototyping
  • Connects with peers in other regions, other R&D functions and business units to share best practices, and accelerate the global deployment of new innovations
  • They will be responsible for prototyping on specific projects to effectively flesh out design ideas, interpret sensory and consumer insights, bring to life consumer feedback from testing for the design, and translation of product innovations to effectively communicate the intent of the product concept for innovation.
  • They will have solid understanding in the front-end framework (FEF) process and work hand in hand with the Design, Sensory and other product development teams to translate insights into products.
  • They are also responsible for working with the Science and Technology teams to help prototype ideas and develop concepts to effectively communicate the intent of the new innovation to the boarder business.
  • They are a technical expert and contact for prototyping and will work with the Principle Product development scientist to communicate key product and pack learnings opportunities across brands and across markets.
  • They will provide input to the recommendations to the Project Leaders and teams regarding concept development and seek approval for progression of projects through stage gates and ultimately launch.
  • Will apply scientific and innovative methodology across the whole program of work, incorporating the best practices, tools and methodologies from internal and external sources.
  • Global travel will be required to factories as well as key markets.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline
  • 1 year experience working in the development and successful launch of new products, packages and processes in a fast moving consumer goods company
  • Project management skills
  • Experience working in lab, pilot plant or food manufacturing plant
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Learning agility
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline
  • 2+ years’ experience working in the development and successful launch of new products, packages and processes in a fast moving consumer goods company
  • Experience in working with outside vendors to deliver project requirements
  • Experience working with cross functional team members including Marketing, Finance, Commercial, Supply and Engineering
  • Technical experience executing multiple projects, looking at new perspectives to solve existing and new prototyping solutions
