Leads and manages execution of refining major projects program primarily within an assigned region and/or at refinery.

Work Location

  • There is flexibility for work location for the first 1 – 2 years but eventually the employee must be mobile and open to any of Andeavor’s sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages team of project engineers, construction, engineering and other project personnel through day-to-day execution of capital program addressing safety, cost, schedule, quality, engineering, procurement, construction, and overall team dynamics.
  • Leads projects through stage-gated Project Management Process including funding and approval process.
  • Ensures goal alignment at all levels within program and projects team maintaining unified focus on defined objectives and desired outcomes. Encourages commitment to environment of continuous improvement. Provides structured forum for communication and interface management across project to ensure quality, value, timeliness. Ensures open communication and cooperation among team and stakeholders.
  • Monitors individual project costs and quality to ensure value and technical performance. Identifies and resolves key issues impacting projects’ schedule, cost and quality. Defines, reviews and manages potential scope change decisions in accordance with established change management objectives.
  • Coordinates project reporting activities and provides channel for reporting and raising key issues with project stakeholders and executive management. Provides regular progress updates to all appropriate parties.
  • Manages staff. Initiates selection, promotion and corrective actions when appropriate. Accountable for fair and uniform application of personnel policies. Provides technical direction and ensures development and technical ability and competence.
  • Communicates effectively with appropriate stakeholders to convey status and plans for projects within major projects programs. Provides single point of leadership and communication for major projects program within region.

Experience and EDUCATION

  • Minimum undergraduate degree required
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering preferred
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in project engineering, construction management, maintenance, turnaround management and/or capital project management in refining or petrochemical industry with demonstrated experience leading projects with total installed cost greater $10MM required
  • Experience leading projects greater than $50MM preferred
