Welding Engineer - 2nd Shift  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Euclid, OH


Position Summary:

To provide weld engineering and production operations support on second shift. This position is critical to maintaining work flow and quality requirements for second shift welding operations. The candidate will fulfill weld engineering, manufacturing, and inventory control responsibilities as well as interact with NDT personnel to ensure weld operations are supported on second shift.


This individual will be responsible for and/or directly involved with the following welding and brazing items:

  • Provide engineering support for production joining operations and employee qualifications.

  • Monitor welding and brazing operations in the manufacturing area to support established schedules while assuring procedure compliance.

  • Provide technical support to hourly weld personnel regarding weld functions (not direct supervision).

  • Investigate and recommed new welding and brazing techniques/procedures.

  • Provide technical assistance regarding standard and repair routings.

  • Perform manufacturing document modifications as required to support second shift operations and obtain NDT personnel approval when necessary.

  • Perform inventory transactions as required to ensure proper material allocation is achieved.

  • Interface with the Materials Laboratory, Quality Assurance, Process Engineering, Product Engineering and other functional departments to support the resolution of hardware joining problems.

  • Other weld engineering and manufacturing support tasks and responibilities as required.


Job Qualifications / Requirements 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent weld/braze experience.

  • Minimum of five years experience in Manufacturing/Engineering or equivalent is preferred.

  • Experience in torch brazing copper preferred.

  • Experience in manual and automated GTAW welding, stainless and high nickel base alloys materials preferred.

  • Working knowledge of military welding standards such as NAVSEA 250-1500-1 and/or MIL-STD-278 preferred.

  • Working experience with heat treatment, tooling, and machining processes preferred.

  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills.

  • Established leadership ability and skills.

  • Ability to obtain a DOE security clearance.
