    About the Position:
    United States Military Entrance Processing Command (US MEPCOM), with headquarters in Building 3400, Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes (North Chicago), IL, is a joint service command under the direction of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Personnel Policy and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 Military Entrance Processing Stations, determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. Two geographic sectors provide intermediate management in operating the MEPS. The Eastern Sector Headquarters and Western Sector Headquarters are co-located with the Command Headquarters.

    If you are a current Army employee this is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year. This appointment may be extended in 1 year increments up to a total of 3 years. This appointment may be made permanent without further competition.
    If you are any of the other eligibilities on this announcement: This position is a TERM not to exceed 13 months, with provisions to extend up to 6 years with provisions to be made permanent without further competition.
    To be eligible for conversion to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment, you must have:

    Responsibilities
    • Direct and distribute workload among lower-grade, both civilian and military, Financial Management Analysts and Budget Analysts.
    • Manage all Financial Management Systems.
    • Perform financial analysis.
    • Advise staff in resolving unique problems within policy, procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
    • Maintain economics surveillance over internal and external actions.

    • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the Financial Management Certification, Certificate Level 2 within two years of the hire date.
    • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirements of 10% of the time.
    • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must clearly identify in their resume that they possess one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-11) or equivalent. Specialized experience is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: performing reconciliation and special review of unliquidated obligations to ensure the accuracy and validity of financial information; managing appropriated and non-appropriated funds accounting policies to ensure regulatory compliance; reviewing funding documents and financial data to ensure information accuracy and funds availability; analyzing automated system outputs to identify problems and trends; preparing graphs and reports to depict financial information; maintaining internal controls to identify and resolve accounting errors; and prepare reports and graph to depict financial information.

    Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
