Basic Function

Under general direction, monitors and coordinates the implementation of regional sales initiatives in order to maximize room revenue and occupancy for Drury Hotels. Maintains a consistent approach to sales through Sales the Drury Way. Supports and conducts sales training for all sales personnel, General Managers and hotel team members.  Acts in a supervisory capacity for designated sales personnel.

Job Duties

  1. Monitors and thoroughly comprehends market conditions, occupancy trends for individual properties and competitor hotels, and economic factors which may impact hotel occupancies.
  2. Development of Sales Managers including but not limited to: conducting monthly Performance Development Meetings, car coaching sessions every 4 to 6 weeks, weekly sales conference calls, etc. must be completed on a consistent basis.
  3. Complies with specific duties as outlined in the Sales the Drury Way plan. Trains, supports, coach, and provide direction for hotel and sales personnel including General Managers, Assistant General Managers, Sales Managers, Sales Coordinators, and hotel team members in Sales the Drury Way role.
  4. Thoroughly understands Company programs including but not limited to: Drury Gold Key Club, Drury Inner Circle, SMILE Reservation Process, Group Inquiry Calls, etc. Fully understands and stays abreast of changes and developments in these programs.
  5. Works with hotel and sales team members to identify revenue opportunities and key accounts which have significant revenue growth potential. Actively strategize to pursue and earn business conducive to the needs of the hotel and maximize usage from accounts.
  6. Directly supervises Sales Managers, Sales Coordinators, and other sales personnel in the region. In addition to training and development, this requires recruiting, hiring, coaching, and counseling in accordance with Drury standards.
  7. Appreciates the diversity of our team members, guests, vendors and surrounding community. Is committed to ensuring a positive and safe work environment at all times.
  8. Takes ownership of top accounts at hotels without a Sales Manager and is responsible for improving revenue for those accounts.
  9. Coordinates and monitors all advertising and promotional efforts. Including but not limited to: rack cards, directory information updates, coupons, Travel Discount Guides, promotions with area attractions, and other leisure publications. Organizes sales blitzes, grand openings, open houses and other functions as needed.
  10. Coordinates with other Drury departments such as Central Groups, National Accounts, Tour Sales, National Call Center, Revenue Department, Marketing Department, and others in order to maximize revenues and occupancies throughout the company.
  11. Participates and supports the revenue budgeting process.
  12. Develops and coordinates the implementation of sales and marketing plans and Quarterly Sales Meetings for all hotels including new hotels prior to opening.

  13. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

General Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Knowledge of sales techniques, business leadership etiquette, principles and practices.
  • Ability to speak English and clearly communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate to the public in a warm, friendly and professional manner.
  • Solid proficiency in computer skills, composition of letters and reports
  • Keen attention to detail when composing, typing and reviewing material.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Requires ability to operate an automobile in the daily routine of making sales calls.
  • Up to 75% travel.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Education: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to 4 years of college or Bachelor's Degree in management, business, or related field.

Experience: Requires minimum of 3 years of sales experience and a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.

Essential Functions: Requires ability to safely operate an automobile intermittently, 60 - 70% of a regular day. Requires ability to walk and stand up to 2 hours at a time.

Working Relationships

  1. Reports to the Regional Manager.
  2. Coordinates and cooperates with each General Manager within the region and with Corporate Departments.
  3. Seeks advice and support from Director of National Sales.
