Manufacturing Engineer

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify and troubleshoot process, material, or equipment problems to minimize down time and recommend solutions to Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Develop, assemble, procure or modify existing and new tooling, fixtures, and equipment to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Implement revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and procedures, including writing Supplier Problem Sheets (SPS)/deviations and revision of Drawings/BOM.
  • Provide Engineering support for NPI orders in order to validate and process NPI checklist to ensure integrity/quality of part and process.
  • Experienced with CAD programs in order to create drawings for new/prototype or existing drawings
  • Assist with hands on training of manufacturing employees on new products, tooling, equipment, procedure, and process revisions.
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiency improvements and cost reductions within manufacturing
  • Read schematics, assembly drawings, data sheets, and process sheets to perform testing, build fixtures, checkout and trouble-shoot equipment.
  • Promote and support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities in Manufacturing.
  • Provide Engineering support to Manufacturing/QC as to clarify product/documentation issues found during manufacturing. Create or modify Standard Operating Procedures and Operations Method Sheets (OMS) to reflect current build method.
  • Review key quality metrics and develop improvement plans with regards to Supplier, Internal, and Customer rejects. Alert appropriate levels on trends and critical quality issues. Help drive supplier corrective actions when needed.
  • Initiate 8Ds with regards to internal and external issues and drive for containment, Root Cause, and Corrective/ Preventive actions.

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering Technology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in an Engineering role
  • Ability to perform all assigned tasks, work independently, and complete work on schedule.
  • Follow Sr. Manufacturing Engineers direction while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers
  • Cable manufacturing experience preferred
  • Basic understanding and ability to read prints and schematics
  • Background in practical electronics, electronic test equipment and troubleshooting
  • Ability to develop and execute a detailed test plan.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong problem solving skills and efficient management of time and resources
  • Excellent organizational skills and good written and verbal communication skills
  • Results orientated and high commitment
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and high levels of uncertainty and change
