Category Manager

Role Purpose:

To drive net sales growth and profits by managing the relevant category portfolio including core portfolio, private label and licensed products. Review product life cycle to determine product status: Activating sales with Trade Marketing, Renovating, discontinuing and proposing new product development where needed. The Category Manager is responsible for leading cross functional project teams through the new product development process to ensure projects are delivered on time and customer expectations are met. The CM provides a deep understanding of product characteristics and emerging consumer and competitive trends in the evaluation of new opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and prepare the launch of new concept/products, in line with commercial calendar and category strategy
  • Lead cross functional project team through new product development process and ensures adherence to timeline and KPI's
    • Creates and executes project work plans, identifies resources needed and assigns responsibilities
    • Propose actions to solve any deviations when they
  • Conduct post mortem analysis for key projects to identify & communicate successful/unsuccessful project elements
  • Act as the S.M.E for the category within the company. Is a resource for questions and training from trade, sales and cross functional team members
  • Aligns with Channel marketing to develop activation and customer plans for the launch on new products including but not limited to the development of marketing materials and tools for the commercialization of the product.
  • In line with category priorities build knowing and understanding of market dynamics (consumer/customer/competition), provide fact based market information (together with Channel marketing) and foster new opportunities for future profitable growth
  • Actively contribute within the Bakery Product Team and give structured input to development of category strategies, NPD plans etc.
  • Communicate performance report cards/ key metrics for new products and marketing programs.
  • Assist with customer meetings and trade shows as needed


  • Structured mindset in order to characterize the playing field of product, customer, consumer and competitors
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Experience in engaging and motivating a small cross functional team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills incl. Fluent written and spoken English
  • Understanding of basic revenue and pricing models, profit and loss.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Able to use review, evaluate and use insights for portfolio management, NPD development



  • 3+ years' experience in the B2B or B2C food marketing regarding product portfolio management, marketing mix, understanding of consumer & customer intelligence etc
  • Min. Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing or management; Masters/MBA is a plus.
  • Experience managing PNL's and developing both market and suggested retail pricing a plus
  • Industry knowledge a plus.
