Simon specializes in aggregates, asphalt and ready-mix concrete production, asphalt paving, and concrete, bridge, highway, and utility construction. Summary: Installs, maintains, and repairs plant machinery, equipment, and physical structures in a commercial aggregate plant and/or ready-mix/asphalt production plant; assists with plant/quarry operations as needed. 

 

Responsibilities:

•    Ensure a safe work environment by complying with all safety policies and procedures, while using the appropriate tools, equipment, and PPE for the task
•    Follow all OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment, as applicable
•    Follow directions of manager regarding daily tasks and expectations for each specific project
•    Assist with maintaining organization and safe operation of yard or plant
•    Maintain plant equipment and facilities to meet operating requirements and objectives
•    Visually inspect and test plant machinery and equipment
•    Perform maintenance mechanic assignments on plant equipment and facilities
•    Collect data for preventative and predictive plant maintenance projects
•    Perform welding and cutting assignments, including fabrication of plant equipment and structures, and make repairs to worn process equipment according to plant standards
•    Inspect lubrication of mechanical equipment, record data for running equipment, take lab samples as required, drain oil and change oil and filters on all equipment oil reservoirs
•    Operate mobile heavy industrial equipment and/or company vehicles used to complete maintenance and perform other tasks involved in plant maintenance and operation as required

 

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience: 

•    At least 1 year of welding/fabrication experience and/or equivalent combination of training and experience in an industrial or similar setting required
•    At least 2 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience preferred
•    Experience operating heavy industrial/construction equipment preferred
•    Experience working in a pit/quarry, ready-mix/asphalt production plant and/or similar aggregate production operation preferred
•    MSHA certification preferred
•    Valid drivers’ license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; commercial license a plus

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

•    Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), as required by company safety guidelines
•    Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
•    Regularly required to use hands to feel,  handle and manipulate objects
•    Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) 
•    Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
•    Regularly required to Stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
•    Regularly required to sit for long periods at a desk using a computer
•    Frequent work in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery, exposure to loud noise
•    Frequent exposure to typical production plant/aggregate site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all weather conditions
•    Travel, including overnight stays away from home may be required
