Requisition Summary

The Embedded Software Development Manager is part of the PACCAR Embedded Engineering organization responsible for developing innovative hardware and software solutions for Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks.  PACCAR Embedded Engineering is a rapidly expanding organization that is transforming the way software is created for commercial vehicle applications.  In this role, you will lead development of rapid control prototype models, calibration of the models, and the translation of the models into technical requirement specifications.  These deliverables are created early in the vehicle engineering process and the foundation for developing the hardware and software within the electronic systems on PACCAR trucks.  This position is located in Renton, WA.


Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute PACCAR software strategy
  • Coordinate and align software deliverables across PACCAR truck programs
  • Lead Renton Embedded Engineering team responsible for the following:
    • Developing vehicle electronic system architectures
    • Designing electronic control unit hardware
    • Developing application software, including code branch management and code quality reviews
    • Applying functional safety concepts to software development
    • Achieving program milestones on time and on budget
  • Lead periodic software updates and enhancements to meet growing customer expectations
  • Launch new process and development tools for software design
  • Lead, mentor and develop software engineers in a fast-paced environment
  • Provide periodic status reports to leadership and maintain department budget


Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in strategic leadership and tactical execution from a staffing, budget, project planning, and project management perspective
  • Experience in software V-model development including requirements management, software sprint planning, and daily SCRUM
  • Proven ability to lead in a team environment
  • Ability to work well independently, as part of a team, and as an executive leader
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively to all levels of the business
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and good business judgment required
  • Organized and disciplined with ability to respond to shifting schedules and project demands
  • Experience with commercial vehicle and diesel engine development preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant technical work experience, with a minimum of 3 years leading a technical team
  • BS in appropriate technical field required; Master’s degree highly preferred
  • Professional Engineer’s license preferred
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 25%
