Warehouse Safety Specialist

The primary responsibility of a Safety Specialist is to provide safety related training to all associates as needed, support the facility’s 5S initiative and maintain OSHA standards at the Asheville Distribution Center.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct facility wide safety training with all new hires and associates as needed
  • Support the facility’s 5S initiative by completing 5S audits of facility in conjunction with DC Leadership and 5S teams
  • Partner with Loss Prevention, Human Resources and Operations team to discern trends in onsite injuries and accidents and update training materials to reflect those trends
  • Attend and participate in monthly Safety Committee meetings
  • Create and update all safety related training materials
  • Assist the DC teams in ensuring associates are operating as safely as possible
  • Work in conjunction with the Safety Operations Manager to maintain continuity between both distribution center’s safety programs
  • Stay up to date to ensure facility is in compliance with all OSHA laws and regulations
  • Review, update and disseminate facility safety policies continuously
  • Providing strategic reporting as needed
  • Fostering a proactive safety culture through the cultivation of a Return to Work program
  • Conduct risk assessments and present findings to address issues and preventative measures
  • Assist the DC Operation Leadership team as needed.


Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required; some college preferred
  • 5S training and/or Certifications preferred
  • OSHA training and experience in distribution/warehouse environment
  • One to three years of training program management experience
  • Previous experience working in a Distribution Center / Warehouse / Manufacturing environment preferred


Skills & Abilities :

  • Strong knowledge/proficiency with all Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), IBM and SAP
  • Type 50 wpm
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to present communicate with all levels of management
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Good organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Flexibility with work duties and work schedule (overtime and extended hours as needed)

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, reach, grasp, bend, climb stairs and stoop for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to work around moving machinery/equipment (i.e. sorter)
  • Stand for duration of work shift and walk/move continuously
  • Adjust to climate changes; hot and cold extremes may occur in warehouse
  • Consistent and frequent/reoccurring movement (folding, hanging clothing, packing, closing, ticketing, wrapping, etc.)
  • Lift up to 60 pounds several times per day with some overhead lifting required; weight requirements may vary within work areas
  • Ability to type and read computer screen
