Job Description:

  • Lead team of junior-to-mid-level data scientists in executing complex data science projects that have a significant impact on Whirlpool’s success
  • Provide thought leadership in best data science practices and methods, latest research and technology
  • Help develop a repeatable and reusable analytics workflow; educate the organization about best frameworks
  • Provide strategic leadership in developing business requirements, use-case charters, and a roadmap from requirements to execution to deployment
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and marketing teams across many Whirlpool business domains (IoT, IIOT, Supply Chain, Pricing and Promotions) to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Select and apply appropriate statistical, machine learning, and computing methods to large-scale, high-dimensional, and streaming data
  • Stay current with the latest research and technology (we pride ourselves on professional development!) and share your knowledge throughout the enterprise
  • Prepare data for analysis, review data preparation/ETL code and provide critical feedback on issues of data integrity
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.


Minimum Requirements

  • Degree Level: Ph.D. at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Major(s): Computer Science, Statistics, or related quantitative technical fields
  • Strong hands-on understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Hands-on experience of using machine learning algorithms in real-world applications
  • Strong background in statistics, machine learning, and big data processing
  • Proven programming experience in at least two of the following: Python, Java, R
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Enthusiasm for learning new tools & technologies
  • Experience in working with streaming data and unstructured data


Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with neural networks and deep learning methods
  • Experience working with manufacturing and/or consumer durables sector
  • Prior experience working SAS, SPSS
  • A good publication record in the fields of machine learning, data science.
  • Experience with Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, Pig
  • NoSQL queries and databases, such as MongoDB
  • Data Visualization skills are a plus
