Logistics Analyst

Summary: This position will be responsible for enhancing transportation strategies and processes to support company distribution centers and customer needs.  This will be achieved by improving departmental KPIs, analysis of data to initiate positive change, streamlining internal / external processes, working with transportation partners, and driving focused projects for continual improvement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write and update standard operating procedures for logistics processes
  • Manage service provider invoicing for auditing and freight payment
  • Claims filing and claims handling procedures, including claims reduction techniques
  • Study and report on industry trends including transportation price, capacity, fuel and regulation
  • Report on logistics services provider’s performance against established goals and service level agreements.  Build and introduce corrective action plans to address any service failures.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance department KPIs.  Analyze results and develop strategies that improvement cost and / or service performance for both inbound and outbound shipping
  • Create and distribute RFP documents for competitive bid process / contract negotiations.  Manage / participate in the bid process from beginning to end of the life cycle
  • Preparation of budget and cost analysis reporting for management and finance (freight tracking, freight adjustments and accruals)
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis designed to reduce costs and improve service levels to Customers
  • Stay informed of current and future industry trends, standards, practices, and rules / regulations.  These insights will be used to develop strategic plans for effective / efficient logistics operations
  • Periodically review the latest logistics technology advances, and evaluate the cost benefit to better serving Dorman’s business requirements
  • Coordinate and/or participate in departmental or cross functional projects and initiatives as required
  • Continually explore methods to improve all areas of the logistics services.  Proactively champion / implement supply chain improvements


Skills and Abilities:

  • Seasoned experience in logistics with a proven track record for driving change / improvements in logisistics with tangible results
  • Solid understanding of transportation and/or warehouse operations, terms and concepts
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of raw data and summarize into clear, accurate, meaningful, value-added reports and analysis
  • Maintain and develop positive business relationships with internal and external Customers
  • Excellent Customer focus and interpersonal communication
  • Possess forward thinking, strong analytical capability, excellent problem solving, the ability to manage change, solid execution and a commitment to help the company meet financial objectives and exceed Customer expectations
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills are key to successful job performance
  • Desire/drive to lead initiatives independently or cross functionally to meet changing reqiurements
  • Current or future capability to mentor and mange others to higher levels of personal performance


Technical Skills Requirements:

  • High proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, Business Objects
  • Skills in SAP and TMS systems a plus
  • Understanding of electronic data exchange (EDI) methods and technology


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management / Logistics, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of five to seven years of experience within Transportation / Logistics
